Dumitru Negrei — a terminal shaped like wings.
Moldovan architect Dumitru Negrei developed this Bălți–Leadoveni reconstruction concept as his 2012 master’s diploma project. Its sweeping wing-like forms were conceived to symbolise flight, while reorganising the passenger terminal, forecourt and airport circulation.
The wings symbolise flight.
Editorial noteFluid curves. An architecture of flight.
The concept begins with the image of wings, which the author explained with the words: “The shape of the wings symbolises flight.” Sweeping curved volumes develop this idea into a sculptural composition for the passenger terminal and its access spaces. The continuity of the lines and the overlapping forms give the ensemble a dynamic expression, in which the architecture evokes movement and turns the terminal silhouette into a distinctive element of the airport.
