Bălți–Leadoveni operated regular passenger flights to Istanbul in 2000–2001. The surviving published record confirms the route and traffic, but does not preserve exact departure times or operating weekdays.

The service was suspended after customs officers from Ungheni stopped providing border/customs processing at BZY while a Government decision on a permanent post was awaited. A Moscow relaunch was planned for spring 2002.

A transparent terminal, rhythmic Y-shaped structure, soft curves and a landscape-first arrival experience — a contemporary gateway designed to belong to northern Moldova.

DESIGN LANGUAGE

Lightness outside. Daylight inside.

The website now borrows its visual language from the architectural concept: translucent layers, fine structural lines, generous white space and the airport logo's blue–green spectrum.

EARLIER TERMINAL VISION · 2011

Dumitru Negrei — a terminal shaped like wings.

Moldovan architect Dumitru Negrei developed this Bălți–Leadoveni reconstruction concept as his 2011 architecture diploma project. Its sweeping wing-like forms were conceived to symbolise flight, while reorganising the passenger terminal, forecourt and airport circulation.

Bălți–Leadoveni serves Bălți and the wider north of the Republic of Moldova. The aerodrome near Corlăteni is 9.7 km north of Bălți’s northern city limit at Dacia/BAM and 15.1 km from Bălți city centre.

Its location creates a platform for passenger connectivity, cargo, general aviation and investment around Moldova’s major northern urban and industrial centre.

OUR HISTORY

A runway through generations.

Bălți’s aviation story stretches from regional Soviet-era air links to the construction of the Leadoveni aerodrome and later international operations. Today, that history is the foundation for a new chapter.

20th c.

Bălți becomes an aviation centre

Regional aviation develops around Bălți, connecting northern Moldova with the rest of the country and the wider region.

1980s

Leadoveni enters service

A new aerodrome is developed near Corlăteni/Leadoveni, creating the infrastructure for larger aircraft and regular passenger operations.

1989–94

Regular passenger era

Bălți–Leadoveni handles scheduled passenger services, establishing itself as the principal airport of northern Moldova.

2000–01

International route

The airport’s history includes international passenger operations, including the Bălți–Istanbul route.

A new chapter for BZY

The next ambition is a modern regional airport serving passengers, airlines, cargo and the economy of northern Moldova.

MOLDAEROSERVICE

Part of Bălți’s aviation DNA.

Moldaeroservice has been closely associated with aviation in Bălți and with the operation of Bălți–Leadoveni. Its history links the airport to decades of regional flying, aircraft operations and aeronautical know-how in northern Moldova.
